Liquid aeration is a technique that involves creating tiny pores in the soil, which allows it to absorb water, fertilizer, and oxygen more effectively. This process increases the likelihood of your lawn growing strong, healthy, and green. If you are uncertain whether liquid aeration is suitable for your lawn, you may have some questions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from our clients regarding liquid aeration.

Why should I aerate my lawn?

Because of soil’s natural characteristics, water, fertilizer, and oxygen often have difficulty reaching the turf’s roots to provide it with the essentials that it needs to grow. Aeration is an effective method of reducing soil compaction, allowing chemical nutrients and oxygen to penetrate the soil. This process creates additional space so the roots of your lawn can expand and become stronger. It also makes your turf more resistant to foot traffic, heat, and drought, making it more durable overall.

What makes liquid aeration better than traditional aeration?

Mechanical aeration was the traditional technique for aerating lawns, but it has some limitations. It doesn't penetrate deeply into the soil, which means that some parts of your lawn may not receive the necessary nutrients. Additionally, it's not very effective at balancing your soil's pH, which is critical for your lawn's health. Liquid aeration, on the other hand, is a more effective solution that can reduce soil compaction as effectively as or even better than mechanical aeration. It achieves this without physically disrupting the lawn, making it a preferred option for many homeowners. Because it’s applied as a liquid, it reaches the roots without traumatizing the grass or soil. It also provides much better coverage, reaching all parts of the lawn, and is more effective at balancing your soil’s pH.

What time of year is best for liquid aeration?

Your technician will help you determine the best time to apply liquid aeration, but in general:

Warm season turf – including Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, and St. Augustine – should be aerated between April and June.

Cool season turf, such as fescue, should be aerated in September and October.

How quickly will my liquid aeration treatment work?

In most cases, it takes about 24 hours for the liquid aeration to begin working. Depending on the climate and humidity at the time of your service, it may take up to four days for you to notice any results. For the best results, you’ll want to thoroughly water your lawn for two weeks after treatment.
